The Story Behind Our Breathe Easy Balm

Some of the most meaningful products are born from both education and memory.

The inspiration for my Breathe Easy Balm began during my first year of naturopathic studies. One of our assignments was to formulate a natural  wellness product using what we had learned about essential oils – their traditional uses, chemistry, safety, and, thoughtful formulation.

I immediately knew what I wanted to create.

Growing up in Puerto Rico, there was always a familiar little blue jar in our home: Vicks VapoRub. Like so many families, it was something we reached for whenever someone had a stuffy nose or simply wanted the comforting feeling of aromatic vapors during cold season. The scent alone still brings back memories of being cared for.

My goal wasn’t to recreate Vicks. It was to honor that memory by crafting a botanical version made with nourishing plant oils, beeswax, and carefully selected essential oils.

What began as a school project became something much more.

Over time, I’ve continued refining the formula, studying the individual characteristics of each essential oil and how they complement one another. Every adjustment was intentional- not only for the aroma, butt for the overall experience of comfort and wellness.

Essential oils have been used traditionally by cultures around the world for centuries. Today, research continues to explore many of their aromatic and botanical properties. While they are not a substitute for medical care, when used thoughtfully and safely they can be a beautiful part of a holistic wellness routine.

Each jar of Breathe Easy Balm is handcrafted in small batches using organic jojoba oil, olive oil, natural beeswax, menthol crystals, and carefully balanced blend of essential oils chosen for their fresh, uplifting aroma and traditional association with supporting comfortable breathing.

For me, this balm represents more than a product.

It represents where I began, what I learned, and the passion that continues to shape Alma Sagrada. It is a reminder that sometimes the things we create with our hands carry pieces of our story- and that caring for ourselves can be both rooted in tradition and guided by education.

It brings me so much joy to create products that are both beautiful and purposeful - products that invite us to slow down, breathe deeply, and care for ourselves naturally.
